8 Siblings in the 1860's

Kami (who has Crooked Streams Photography) took these lovely pictures of us siblings last weekend.  I was hoping to get just one picture of the 8 of us but she just kept snapping pictures and rearranging us and this post is the result!  Thank you SOOOO much for these treasures Kami!

Reenacting Spring 2013

For this event we didn't camp out, but since it's was in easy driving distance we were able to attend both days.  We were worried about the deluge of rain that was forecast but the Lord heard our prayers and had mercy on us!  The first day was overcast and no rain, and the second day there was a drizzle all morning but it cleared off into a sunny day with gorgeous white clouds.  It was perfect!  Thank you Lord!

Before you browse these pictures please let me remind you I only post pictures of the lovely side of reenacting.  You don't see the hours of work that goes into just getting us there, the freezing nights, the crying babies, the bathroom trips at night, the raining mornings, the camp fire smoke in the eyes, the loads of dishes, the damp clothes we put on, the wet feet, the sunburned faces, the rivers of sweat running down our legs and back, the lack of ready coffee in the mornings, the hundreds of bathroom trips with toddlers during the day, the unbelievable heat in the tents in sun, the fast furious packing to come home, the unloading of the rigs and the mountains of dishes, dirty clothes and quilts that need done.  So, just because the pictures look charming and lovely doesn't mean reenacting is pure bliss!  But we had a lovely time and want to share with you the lovely side of reenacting!  Obviously, it is well worth it all!!!  Enjoy!

 Ladies working on projects.

Keslie writing on a sign for their "art" class.

 Emma practicing her drawing.

 Look whose walking!

 Kami and Gracie!

I can't believe how grown up Ben is!  He turned 13 earlier in the month and is becoming quite the young man.  He is a joy!

The birthday boy with his budding mustache!

We brought Kate with us to see how she would react to the gun fire and were pleasantly surprised that it didn't seem to bother her.  Being away from Gracie caused her grief but other than that she did really well and all the children loved her!

Story time to an audience of captivated girls!

Faith looking as darling as ever!

:swoon:  Molly is just too cute!  I love this girl!  I know you've heard that line before but since it's true I can't stop saying it.

The boys have this fun challenging game they play.  Little boys get on the big boys shoulders and try to knock each other over.  It's fun for them and we thoroughly enjoy watching the competition.  One event down with no broken bones!

Way to go Ben and Taylor!

Enjoying our lunch with the H. girls while watching the show!

Ben C. on David against Ben on Taylor!

Team work!

Emma's turn for a ride on dad's shoulders!

Emma and Lydia playing together in the warm sunshine!

Look at those smiles!  I looked like poor Lydia when the sun was shining.  The sun hits the canvas tents and bounces right into our eyes....torture!  A huge pain to many at each event.

Kate, Nathaniel and Amelia watching everyone play Town Ball (almost JUST like base ball).  At one point Kate was so eager to play with the running players she almost dragged Gracie across the grass.  That was close, but what else do you expect from a dog that was bred to pull?

The weather was stunning for the game!

Keslie up to bat!  Yes, the girls did play in hoops and corsets!

Keslie running to first base and her honey,  no wait, that's not David (her husband) but Taylor (her brother-in-law)!  That's what you get for marrying a guy whose brothers look like each other!  Actually, she said she was trying to sidetrack him so he'd miss the ball but we don't believer her.  ;)

 The girls watching the game.

Johanna H. was a dear and kept a very careful eye on Owen while his parents played ball and I held sleeping Molly.  She is quite the sweet little mother.

Reenacting tradition!  We almost ALWAYS go to Taco Bell together on the way home.  It's great fun and we get lots of laughs at the astonished looks on the other customers faces who come in as well as the workers on duty.  They don't quite know what to make of us all.  Our unit took over most of the building!

Owen enjoying the lack of clothing!  He's looking so grown-up all of a sudden.

To top it all off, poor Taylor had truck problems and we had to tow him home.  They tried really hard to get it going, but no, it was stubborn and refused to start.  It did give us ladies lots more time to stay and talk which we do rather well! ;-)

Happy and sunburned smiles!  We're looking forward to the next event for more memories!!!
