The Story of our weekend!

Are you ready for the story! It's crazy so hang on!

The weekend started when Michael J. drove Taylor home from CA on Friday morning. Taylor had been cowboy-ing it for 2 1/2 weeks with Michael. Things were going well, packing was going smoothly, Michael was doing a great job getting everything in a tight place and the weather was lovely!

The van and trailer getting packed!

Things ready to be packed in the van!

Michael took some time to read to the children! They all seemed to really enjoy it!

I think Lydia gave this flower to Michael!

Yay! We got there, set up and are now enjoying some wonderful company! What a joy dear friends are!

Our tradition of hot dogs, salad and chips for set up night!

David and Keslie (and baby) Saturday morning!

They guys were able to fight that morning without interruption!

Those are my brothers! Don't they look great?

Lydia and Annie enjoying one another!

My siblings drinking tea! I hear even David has some in a tin mug!

Anna and Gracie!

Now the weekend gets really exciting! While we were watching the afternoon battle Mrs. C came running over to us telling us to get back to the tents quick since a huge wind storm had sprung up and was knocking flys over and risking to break things! You can see here that our kitchen fly is down, breaking china and the pole that held the fly up. Also, the rain at this point was drenching everything! Yuck!

Mrs. Hughe's bother-in-law, Skyler, jumped to catch the parlor fly to keep it from falling on Annie and Lydia who were very frightened! Lydia had been asleep and woke to chaos! Poor thing! Skyler stood there for about 20-25 min. holding that fly while our men were trying to get the other sites back together, in vain, I might add! He was very kind, thank you Skyler!!

Our kitchen! What a mess! We all felt like we were living in a movie! It seemed too unreal as we were fighting to keep our things from breaking and digging through the rubble to gather things that couldn't get wet!
David and Keslie's tent and fly were falling. Mom ran to protect Keslie's pretty things!

I think the fly is wanting to fly away! This is the C's tent.

This woman's tent actually ripped. It takes a lot of wind to rip that thick canvas.

The storm clouds as they pass. They were beautiful, but destructive.

Each of these tents had a fly in front of them and it looked so charming until the storm knocked each one down and threatened to knock most of the tents down too! When the guys got back from the battle they decided that it was best to pack up and head home since we heard the worse was yet to come! I don't think I would have wanted to sleep in a tent knowing it might come down on me! So most of our street packed up and came to our home for the evening and some for the night!

The troops arrive at our home and just at that moment the power went out! Yep! We are on a well so that meant no bathrooms or water! Thankfully, it came back on about 30 minutes later! I'm not sure what we would have don't if it hadn't!

Since everyone was missing the camp fire they started one up in our yard, roasting left over hot dogs!

Mr. Hughes is eating light! LOL! Not really! Just a little for his children!
(Kami's picture)

Look at all those cars! We counted 35 people at our house for dinner that night! It was so fun!
(Kami's picture)

Whoa! Not really sure what he was doing since Kami got this picture!
(Kami's picture)

The wind-blown me cutting meat for dinner! It was so nice since everyone already had food for dinner that night so we just threw roasts and potatoes in the oven and had a potluck!

Gathering for dinner.

The lovely spread!

Waiting in line for dinner!

The food was so good and the fellowship even better!

5 of us Fairchild's had or is having a birthday soon so we had a party with cake, pie and cookies!
(Kami's picture taken by her mom)

Since everyone was sad to miss the dance at the reenactment we decided to move the couch out of the way and dance in the living room! So on went the music and the feet began to tap! It was so much fun to see such a sight in our home! Grandpa just beamed while watching!!!

10 friends spent the night and the next morning after listening to a John Piper sermon via the internet and breakfast, most of us went back to the reenactment. The weather was absolutely PERFECT! If it had been like it was that day for the whole event, it would have been the best event ever as far as weather goes! It was funny to think that one day was the worst and the next the best ever! This picture is David trying to steal a nap after a lovely picnic lunch....but that isn't to be with little sisters around!

The picture says it all!

Keslie took this for me!

Brother and siser enjoying beging old-fashioned!

Aren't they cute?

What a guy!

What a doll!

One last battle that day!

Lydia watching her brothers fight!

Michael limping off the battle field toward Taylor.

Stacking arms.

Lydia enjoyed rolling these logs around!

Gracie finishing up a snack.

Our tradition of going to lunch after. She stole Michael's hat!

After events there is always tons of laundry to do! Gracie and Anna looked so cute as they were folding load after load!

The broken china! Oh well! There could have been a lot more things broken so we were blessed to only loose a few!

Well, thank you for taking to time to read this far! I hope you enjoyed this little peek into our crazy weekend!

That was an adventure! I enjoyed all the photos. If the storm was anything the one we had at the beach, then I don't envy you! We were in Newport for the girls biology field trip on Saturday afternoon and the wind and rain caught us out at the tidepools! The force of the wind as we walked back to the van was incredible. I didn't realize the storm went inland as well! I'm glad you all survived!

I've been enjoying this blog for a while now, I think I found it through Keslie and she through the Sense/sensibility forums. I've never thought I could pull of re-enacting due to my family size (9 blessings) but, this post has me completely inspired...it looks like so much fun despite the wind and storm causing some drama! THanks for sharing so many great pictures. My kids are looking at them with me and are also wanting to get involved in re-enacting...now, where to begin!
