A funeral and several birthdays!

The day after the reenactment was my birthday and also a funeral for a gentleman who lived at the same place as my grandmother. He was a colonel and had served in the army for over 33 years! His service is greatly appreciated by my family and I so it was an honor to attend his funeral and show his widow and our friend that we honor him and his life's work.

The grounds at the National Cemetery were lovely despite the somber drizzle.

Benjamin looking sharp and handsome.

The honor guard is coming.

Mrs. S, the Colonel's widow, and her nephew.

The soldier who played Taps saluting as the casket was brought up. Doesn't that scene give you the chills?

Getting ready to fold the flag.

Everything was so precise.

The folded flag in the widows lap. She has far and above earned the right hold the flag that covered his casket by her care of him through his military service and later her unfailing dedication to him through his later years with Alzheimer's.

This gentleman is Mrs. S's cousin. I am going to call her and get the full details on his military service because it was amazing. One thing I do remember is that he was a POW for a time. Thank you dear man for your sacrifice for all of us!

Lydia loves Mrs. S and talks about her all the time!

Mrs. S and her nephew. We grieve with you and love you.

Now, on to birthdays!

That evening the girls made Ben and I a birthday breakfast for dinner! It was so good after a long day out and the cake after was delicious as well! Wow!

Us birthday kids!

Two days later is Grandma's birthday! The flowers are from her son Kevin and his family. Aren't they lovely?

These are some very dear ladies we have come to love and adore. Peggy is in the green on the left, then Pauline, Gracie, Grandma, and Jaunice. We think the world of each one of them.

Aren't they sweet?

Mom and Jaunice have a special relationship! She is a dear and loves to talk about the Lord and His love for her! What a precious lady!

Makes me think of my own Dad's funeral... we were so thankful for the Military men who came and played taps and gave the gun salute...what an honor that was to have them there.

Happy birthday Amber!

We attended our uncle's military funeral two years ago. The soldiers giving the final gun-shot salute and the guy playing "Taps" gave me chills!
