December 2012

Here is a long over due update on the going's on here at Caledonia Manor.  December has been a very busy and fun month so here are a few highlights.

Flowers blooming in December?  Yes indeed!

Not long after picking flowers we had a lovely dusting of snow.

It's looking like winter!

Taylor turned 20 the beginning of the month and he decided he needed his nephew to help blow out the candles.   Owen loves Taylor.

Lydia is growing up so fast!

I had to get a picture of Grandma after mom did her hair the other day. She looked so pretty and was enjoying sitting before the fire and looking at the Christmas tree.  We just love having her home and treasure the moments we spend with her.

At the last minute I decided to make Lydia a dress for Christmas.  I had the fabric in my stash and dug through a heap of lace to find this antique collar which fit perfectly.  She looked like she stepped out of an old-fashioned Christmas card.

The next day we had several families over for delightful finger foods, fellowship, and to sing Christmas songs!

 Darling Justine

Christmas Eve we had the yummiest meal of the year!  Bacon Appetizers, cheese sticks, onion rings, little smokies in homemade BBQ sauce, delicious homemade mini quiches, cheese and crackers, cheese ball, veggies, and deviled eggs, and to say nothing of the egg nog and mountains of candy and cookies!  It was simply scrumptious!  David had to work but we were happy Keslie and the children could be with us.

Owen looks a little worried, maybe he's wondering why he doesn't get Christmas Eve dinner...he enjoyed chewing on a toy and banging a spoon on the tray.

Kate loves Owen, and he seems to really like her too!  They will be good friends one day.

Sitting with Great-grandpa and playing with his gift.  Owen really loved the noise the paper makes when you hit it!

"Who is it from?"  Not really what he was thinking.  More like "Let's see how fast I can rip this off!"

Molly's turn.

"See, she dances!"

Emma enjoying Lydia's music globe.

Lydia got a doll she REALLY wanted!  She almost cried for joy and that doll hasn't been long out of her sight since she opened it.

Ben's happy, a big knife!

Christmas morning we opened our stockings.

Little things we enjoy putting in the stockings.

After a breakfast of cinnamon rolls, eggs and sausage with David, Keslie and kids we opened our gifts from them and Grandma E, such a fun time.

Molly helping her Great-grandma (my dad's mom).

After all the excitement Owen fell asleep on great-grandma.

Aw, pure sweetness!

When he woke up he was super happy!  I ADORE his vest!  He is the cutest little guy!

Gorgeous Keslie and her boy!

Another smile I couldn't resist posting! If you look really close you can see his first tooth!  He got a tooth, learned to sit up and crawl, all in one week!

Kate is 5 months old now.  Gracie is doing a wonderful job training her to be polite to others and obedient.  She is doing very well but being a puppy will need lots more work.

Kate - Our New Puppy!

Here is Kate (Lady Katherine of Caledonia Manor), our sweet new puppy.  She is a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, which is a rare breed, (different than the Bernese Mountain Dog).  Swissies are very sweet, loyal, gentle, hardly shed and DON'T drool!!!!  That is a huge plus!  They were used in Switzerland to pull carts and haul fire wood, thus their nick-name of "the poor man's horse."  They were used as working dogs until vehicles became more popular putting most of the dogs out of work.  They recently began breeding Swissies again in the late 1980's and now today are becoming more popular because of their gentle, quiet, and sweet nature.

Kate (14 weeks old) loves to romp and play in the leaves.  Don't let her sweet looks fool you, she can get quite wound up chasing leaves and our feet!!!  Yikes!

 Yes, Lydia loves her too!

 Pretty girl!

Gracie has been researching and studying this breed for over a year and by God's grace we were able to find an amazing show puppy for her.

It's her birthday!

Lydia Anne is turning 7 today!
Sorry about all the pictures but she was (and is) too cute to pass up darling pictures of her....

Enjoy!

 Grandma's first time seeing Lydia.

Smile!

Isn't she just kissable?

Aw!  Our "Towel Baby"

Christmas excitement

Reading with grandma.  If you look closely  you can see a huge knot on her forehead.  Not uncommon for Lydia, she was always getting hurt.

Eek!  Too cute!

Sporting new dresses.

More cuteness and bruises!

Wow!  Lydia is the queen of face-making.

Almost 3-years-old at David's wedding.

First time celebrating her birthday with her new sister-in-law.  (Keslie's birthday is just a few days later)

Another bump on her head.

Photo shoot in a vintage dress.

Her favorite past time is picking flowers.  She now has her own flower garden which she'll tend for hours!

This is one of my most favorite pictures of her!

 She loves her daddy!

Vacation time with the family.

Kissin' on her new niece Emma!

First fish ever caught and proud of it!

Christmas play.  At first we thought they had permanent marker on their face but thankfully it was only eye liner pencil.  Whew!  That would have been a mess to clean off...it was hard enough!

Holding Molly

 The five sisters

Dad's golfing buddy!
(I just LOVE the expressions on both their faces!)

Buddies and friends, auntie and niece.

Playing in the rain.

Silly girl!

Missing her 4 front teeth!

This was a fun spring time photo-shoot.

Little Dutch girl for a dance.

Missing teeth and majorly crooked shades!

Holding Owen for the first time.  She's one happy auntie!

My 3 favorite girlies!

Slumber party with dear friends.

Yes, she ate the WHOLE ice cream cone!  (They all did as a matter of fact!)

Doughnuts are her one weakness in life!

Happy birthday Lydia!  You've certainly brought a huge light into our lives and keep us smiling!  We look forward to watching you grow and become a woman of God who delights to serve Him and others around you.

We LOVE you!
